There is more to it  than you think

“Just days before the Paris attacks in November 2015, the French daily newspaper “Libération” wrote, “For thirty years, the Great Mosque of Brussels has been an active Salafist refuge, offering fertile soil for their networks to grow.” The paper quoted Islam expert Michel Privot of the  European Network Against Racism: “Salafist sentiments are solidly anchored in the minds of Muslims in the Belgian capital.” The phenomenon, he says, can be traced back to Saudi Arabia’s missionary zeal in Brussels. “Belgian authorities have been playing with fire (regarding this issue) for 30 years.” Source: The Independent

“There are many reasons why Belgium has become a hotbed of radical Islamism. Some of the answers may lie in the implanting of Saudi Salafist preachers in the  country from the 1960s.” Source: Modern Diplomacy

“Many of the terrorists had connections with Molenbeek District of Brussels, long considered a major terrorist center in  Europe (..)   More than 500 young Muslim   men have been radicalized to join ISIS in Syria.   Many of them coming home target their own country for Salafist Jihad. Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and other Gulf Council countries are members and friends of the NATO member countries, USA and UK, and they are, as is being claimed by everyone, directly or indirectly behind these terrorists. But no one seems ready to ask them to stop this situation.”Source:  Tuck magazine and persblog.be

Saudi Arabia, uncomfortable with Iran’s growing influence over Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen, is pulling Turkey to its side. The new Saudi-Turkish alliance seems to be an effort by the Sunnis to form a bloc against the Shiite world. Turkey, which succeeded in staying away from sectarian conflicts until the AKP came to power, is now becoming a part of a sectarian polarization for the sake of blocking Iran.” Source: Al-Monitor

It looks like a number of players in the Middle East are very displeased with US and EU policies towards Iran which led to sponsoring IS. Does Europe pay the price for the détente with Iran? F.D.
